Emerge, Embody, Empower
An Extraordinary Journey To Morocco With Maya Pagán And Zainab Zakari
June 25 — July 1 2022
Join us for a week of heart expanding yoga, cultural connection, and life-changing adventure in magnificent Marrakech, Morocco.
Elements of the Retreat
Yoga
Follow the cycle of the rising African sun and setting desert moon with daily solar & lunar yoga practices to deepen your connection to body, mind and spirit. We will use the mandala, a sacred geometric shape symbolizing balance, harmony and cosmic wholeness to synthesize each day's discoveries. Practices will include vinyasa flow, restorative yoga and nidra plus meditation. All levels are welcome. We'll also offer additional workshops off the mat to explore mandalas and chakras in daily living and how to create your own watercolor mandalas.
Explore
Adventures will include a guided tour of the medina (the old city), a visit to a nearby organic farm for a cooking class led by a local chef, and a day trip to hike and picnic in the Atlas Mountains. There will be shopping in the markets for textiles, spices, baskets and more, visits to hidden gardens, as well as indulging in a hammam, a traditional and unforgettable Moroccan spa experience. Other optional adventures are available as add-ons. Desert camel ride? Local wine tasting? We've taken care of every detail so that you can truly relax and enjoy!
Nourish
Meals feature farm-to-table, authentic Moroccan cuisine, reflecting the unique flavors and spices of North Africa and made daily onsite with local ingredients, some coming directly from the Peacock Pavilion's gardens. Enjoy estate grown olive oil, fresh squeezed orange juice, handmade yogurt and freshly baked bread everyday! The chefs take pride in delighting their guests and are happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions.
Accommodation
Peacock Pavilions is a lush and peaceful oasis in the Moroccan desert, located just 10 miles outside of bustling Marrakech. Our retreat will have exclusive access to this spectacular eco-friendly, artisanal boutique hotel situated in a secluded and protected olive grove with sweeping views of the Atlas mountains. Designed and built by author, blogger and designer, Maryam Montague, and her architect husband, Chris Redecke, this 8.5 acre luxury estate has been featured in dozens of international magazines, including National Geographic Traveler, Elle Décor, House & Garden, Food & Wine. Recently Forbes Magazine named Peacock Pavilions one of the 8 most beautiful hotels in the world! The entire property has been artfully decorated with Maryam's personal collection of museum quality artifacts and colorful textiles gathered on her world travels. Guest pavilions feature soaring ceilings, majestic fireplaces, and inviting corners to gather for intimate conversation. Elegant bedrooms each feature their own beautiful bathrooms with solar heated showers. Spend your free time roaming through expansive rose gardens, sipping tea on tiled terraces, exercising in the outdoor gym beneath bougainvillea, or lounging by the serene pool and fountains. Breakfast is served en plein air serenaded by a chorus of birdsong, while some dinners will be held in the Arabian dining tent, seated on piles of cushions and handwoven rugs.
Give
Peacock Pavilions supports Project Soar, a non-profit organization established by the hotel owners, to empower local Moroccan girls through art, sports, health and English language education. We are joining with Peacock Pavilion to donate a portion of this retreat's proceeds to Project Soar, to help teenage Moroccan girls understand their value and their rights, and find their voice as young female leaders.

Love for Zainab and Maya
-
Zainab
My time spent with Zainab, both in classes and as a yoga teacher trainee, has been a source of empowerment, engagement and self-discovery on every level. She cultivates an environment of love and care while simultaneously challenging students to explore their limits both physically and emotionally. Although she encourages creativity and self-exploration through movement, she is a constant grounding presence. Her love of yoga is palpable and contagious. She is truly a light in my life and has enriched my soul more than I can put into words.

Maya
Maya's classes have nurtured my understanding and love of the philosophy and true teachings of yoga. In them, Maya creates an oasis and safe haven from the everyday pressures of doing, and continual striving/pushing through life; a place to reconnect body, mind and spirit through movement and breath; a space for contemplation and returning to intention; a space to hold the tender parts of ourselves and of one another in order to evolve our compassion, and practice acceptance. Her guidance has helped me grow my awareness and capacity for self-kindness, which in turn affects my capacity to be kind to others, softening the challenges that fill life. I am so grateful to have her influence (and that of the warm community she cultivates) in my life.
