These twice-weekly morning hours became for many months the only fixed points on my calendar and I have benefited enormously, body and soul, from participating in Maya's classes. Some are tailored to student requests, some respond to the seasons or the moon; some Maya generously dedicates to sharing her own deeper studies of yoga physiology and practice. These variations make each session a welcome adventure. I am ever grateful for Maya's teaching and kindness. What began as a pandemic fix is for me now an ongoing necessity of life.

because she has such a joyous spirit and deep knowledge of the practice. Each class has its own enlivening story as she guides students through various sequences of poses that release and refresh the body from head to toe. (She even does eye yoga!) Through careful instructions she encourages students to pay attention to their own bodies, not idealized ones. To this end, Maya continually offers modifications in position so that students can fine tune their practice and truly listen to their bodies. She also incorporates mudras and readings to bring the work of the body into the mind. I always leave her class exhilarated and comforted with my heart as well as my hips opened.

and now has become my daily routine. I joined her group classes and something captivated me and tickled my curiosity. I couldn't pinpoint exactly what it really was: maybe the relaxing time or the peacefulness and grace surrounding those classes, but that was enough to make me start private sessions with Maya. And then my own journey started. A journey that is teaching me how to listen to my body, how to give meaning to each pose and connect it with something bigger than that: myself. Every session with Maya is a discovery, a new understanding of effort and ease, and balance, that I try to take with me during my day beyond the yoga mat. It is an exciting and wonderful journey that I am profoundly grateful to have taken and to continue to be on. Maya is the best guide I could hope to have.

In them, Maya creates an oasis and safe haven from the everyday pressures of doing, and continual striving/pushing through life; a place to reconnect body, mind and spirit through movement and breath; a space for contemplation and returning to intention; a space to hold the tender parts of ourselves and of one another in order to evolve our compassion, and practice acceptance. Her guidance has helped me grow my awareness and capacity for self-kindness, which in turn affects my capacity to be kind to others, softening the challenges that fill life. I am so grateful to have her influence (and that of the warm community she cultivates) in my life.
